On February 13, Holy Family Catholic Schools recognized alumni and friends who have made outstanding contributions in their personal and professional lives. Holy Family Hall of Honor inductees are an inspiration to current students and the community.
Congratulations to the following recipients of the 2018 Hall of Honor awards:
Professional Achievements Award – Mike Portzen ‘71
Mike graduated from Wahlert Catholic with the class of 1971 and began his construction business, Mike Portzen Construction, now known as Portzen Construction in 1983. What began with several housing rehab projects in Dubuque, has evolved into a thriving business with contributions of his service and leadership in thousands of projects in the tri-state area.
Holy Family Catholic Schools Service Award – Karen Zeckser ‘62
Karen graduated from Wahlert Catholic in 1962 and worked as a full-time guidance counselor at Wahlert from 1989 until her retirement in 2011. In these 22 years, she worked with hundreds of students and assisted many in their pursuit of higher education. She was instrumental in helping students believe in themselves and helping their dreams come true.
Outstanding Service Award – John ‘96 & Amy Freund
Both John and Amy are dedicated to faith and family, with particular emphasis on support of Holy Family Catholic Schools. Amy coordinates and is an active participant in Eucharistic adoration at Wahlert Catholic. John also participates in weekly adoration and has dedicated numerous years of leadership to the Circle of Celebration raffle. Both are active volunteers at St. Columbkille and are excellent role models as parents and people of faith.
Rising Young Alumni – Abbey Drolema ‘01
Abbey graduated with the class of 2001 and proceeded to Loras College to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Business. She has put that degree to good use in her career with Fassport Enterprises and in service to her community. Abbey is actively involved with Holy Family Catholic Schools – including her daughter’s school, St. Columbkille Elementary.
