Loras College announced the appointment of Sue Hafkemeyer as its director of corporate and community relations. Previously, she served as the college’s director of communication and marketing for nine years. In her new role, Hafkemeyer will work closely with Jim Collins, president, and Mike Doyle, vice president of Institutional Advancement, to build public relationships with the community on a local and regional basis. Specifically, she will represent the college at key community functions, participate in and represent the college at government and legislative functions, and initiate and maintain strategic relationships with businesses, corporations, and nonprofit organizations.
Hafkemeyer became director of communication and marketing in 2008 where she primarily oversaw the marketing department, developed and implemented strategic marketing for the college, and coordinated media relations.
Before beginning at Loras, Hafkemeyer served as director of the Dubuque Area Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1994 to 2008. There she developed and implemented long range, strategic marketing plans that increased visitor spending by 25%. In addition, she served as the lead representative of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce in the visioning process and the development of area attractions such as the America’s River project, a $188 million riverfront development which has leveraged millions of dollars in development to Dubuque and attracted national attention.
A search for a new director of communications and marketing is underway. Thomas Jensen, manager of public relations and social media, will serve in an interim capacity until the position is filled.
