CFGD Receives Grant to Help Fund Eye Exams and Glasses for Students

ABB Optical Group, one of the nation’s leading distributors of optical products, is pleased to announce that the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque will receive a $1,000 grant through the company’s third annual ABB Cares program, which recognizes and celebrates outstanding non-profit organizations throughout the country.

Nominated by Klauer Optical Group, Iowa’s premier optical company for over 70 years, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD) is on a mission to help children get the tools they need to succeed in school through a partnership with nonprofit Vision To Learn. The grant will help support a mobile vision clinic that will provide free eye exams and glasses directly to students in low-income communities.

The partnership between CFGD and Vision To Learn was established in 2015 through a pilot program that examined 180 students and provided 90 with glasses. Through this program a mobile clinic with a complete exam lane and frame inventory visits schools to serve children who otherwise wouldn’t be treated. Two pair of eyeglasses are provided to every child; one is kept at school to ensure that students are always able see and learn.

The ABB Cares program recognizes charities that have been nominated by eye care professionals across the country for exceptional programming and community impact.
