State Rep. Chuck Isenhart teamed up with Green Iowa Americorps to host the state’s “conservation station” in Dubuque in late July. The interactive traveling exhibit, staffed by Iowa Learning Farms, debuted on July 30 as part of Americorps’ Summer Sustainability Fair at the Dubuque Rescue Mission Garden, 300 Iowa St.
The conservation station consisted of three trailers that opened to offer three-dimensional learning experiences with rainfall simulators, age-appropriate hands-on activities, pictures, sound, and videos. Patrons interacted with watersheds, urban and agricultural runoff, and learned about the role of water and soil ecosystems.
Iowa Learning Farms is a service of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, calling attention to the importance of improved water and soil quality through conservation farming practices.
In addition to the station, the free Summer Sustainability Fair included games, prizes, informational displays and activities, giveaways, workshops, music, and pizza.
