Iowa College Aid last week notified 889 students that they had been selected to receive All Iowa Opportunity Scholarships, which include $7 million in potential awards to students headed for Iowa schools
The maximum award for each student is $8,118, depending on factors such as financial need, enrollment level and the family’s expected contribution to tuition costs. Students may choose to receive the entire state-funded scholarship for the 2016-2017 school year or elect to have the payment distributed evenly between the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years.
More than 10,000 Iowa students applied for the All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship. Of those, roughly 9% were selected based on high school performance and financial need. Priority was given to students from alternative high schools or alternative programs, and students in certain federal outreach programs. The scholarships must be used to attend colleges or universities in Iowa.
