UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital’s Grandview Expansion is not only improving the technology, space, and functions of the emergency, surgery, and cardiovascular departments, but is also improving the patient experience through a partnership with Outside the Lines Art Gallery, located in Dubuque and Galena. Finley’s Grandview Expansion will feature over 60 art pieces from 13 local and regional artists.
“Adding art to the facility was extremely important for us,” explains David Brandon, President and CEO of Finley Hospital. “Not only does art have the power to add to the healing environment, but it also supports our local art community and makes Finley’s Grandview Expansion truly unique. The art is a very special part of this building.”
Co-owners, Stormy Mochal and Connie Twining, of Outside the Lines Art Gallery led the art project for the Finley expansion. Outside the Lines Art Gallery acted as a liaison between the hospital and the various artists in selecting works or having pieces commissioned.
“Working with both the artists and Finley Hospital has been exciting,” said Mochal. “We’ve been very diligent in making sure each art piece will add to the patient experience and healing environment of the hospital.”
The art pieces range from acrylic and oil paintings on canvas, to photography, to sculpture and bead mosaics to woodcut prints. The first works of art were installed in late May. Many more of the art pieces were on display during the community open house on June 4.
Kids were invited to participate as a “local artist” at Finley’s Grandview Expansion Open House. Kids received a coloring page to take home and return to Finley Hospital via email or social media for a chance at a gift card to Matter Creative, in Dubuque. Completed entries are posted on Finley’s Facebook page.
Finley’s Grandview Expansion is a 70,000 square foot addition to the hospital that will house the new emergency department, surgical suites and a new heart center.
