The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Peosta campus hosted the awards reception of the inaugural Iowa Community College Advertising and Design Invitational (ICCADI) competition on Friday, May 20.
The ICCADI competition recognizes and celebrates original design created by students enrolled in the Graphic Design programs at Iowa’s community colleges. It rewards individuals whose projects demonstrate engaging, innovative, effective and thoughtful design solutions. All Iowa community college graphic design students were invited to submit their designs to the competition, according to Carla Heathcote, NICC Graphic Design program lead and ICCADI founder.
The entries were judged by top design professionals: Michael Schmaltz, Refinery Design, Dubuque; Prof. Bernard Canniffe, Graphic Design Chair, Iowa State University, Ames; and Distinguished Prof. Robin Landa, Kean University, Manhattan, N.Y., author of over 20 books on design. Winners will be awarded cash and prizes donated by sponsors, and the top designs will become a traveling poster exhibit that circulates throughout the state over the next year.
Eighteen winners were announced at the awards reception, with honors including: ICCADI Gold, Silver, Citations of Merit, Honorable Mentions and Student Choice awards.
