The Northeast Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America is proud to honor Thomas Flynn with the Distinguished Eagle Award and Jack Schmid as the Northeast Iowa Eagle Scout of the Year. Both recipients will be presented their award at the Northeast Iowa Council’s 1st Annual Gathering of Eagles event being held on April 14, 2016 at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves on a national level, receiving recognition or eminence within their field, and who have a strong record of voluntary service to their community. Only Eagle Scouts who earned the Eagle Scout rank a minimum of 25 years previously are eligible for nomination. The award is granted by the National Eagle Scout Association upon the recommendation of a committee of Distinguished Eagle Scouts.

The Northeast Iowa Eagle Scout of the Year award was created to celebrate leaders who have made significant contributions to the life of our community through unselfish leadership in education, business, or government.

The Boy Scouts Northeast Iowa Council serves 2,312 youth in six counties in Iowa and Illinois. The Council, supported by 1,081 volunteers, is headquartered in Dubuque, IA.
