Robert Wethal has accepted the position of vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Mercy Medical Center – Dubuque. For the past eight years, Wethal has served as director of critical care and cardiovascular services at Mercy with accountability for the intensive care and cardiovascular units, the cardiology department, and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Before joining Mercy, Wethal worked as a charge nurse/critical care nurse leader, clinical nurse educator, and critical care staff nurse at North Colorado Medical Center, Banner Health System in Greeley, Colorado; and in the surgical intensive care and progressive care units at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, IA.
Wethal obtained a BSN degree from Clarke University in Dubuque in 1997 and a Masters in Health Care Administration degree from Des Moines University in 2014. He is certified in adult critical care by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and the Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders, where he is serving his second term on their Board of Directors. Wethal completed the Iowa Hospital Association’s Executive Leadership Academy and received the Rising Star Award, sponsored by the Dubuque Business Times, in 2011. In addition, he is in his second term on the Board of Directors for Dupaco Community Credit Union.
