Rick Ackley and Dave George will be named the management and labor recipients of the “Bob Bennett Recognition for Good Faith in Collective Bargaining” award at the Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council’s awards banquet on Tuesday, November 24, at the Grand River Center.

Ackley, from A&G Electric, is the 2015 management recipient of the Good Faith award. George from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 204 is the 2015 labor recipient.

The Council’s highest recognition honors individuals connected with Dubuque area unions and employers who practice good faith in their dealings with others and who are models of “working together for a better community,” the Council’s motto.

Bob Bennett – whom the award is named after – served the Dubuque area and northeast Iowa for 22 years as a highly-respected mediator for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), promoting good faith in collective bargaining in both the public and private sectors.

A&G Electric opened the doors in 1983 with two owners. One of those owners, Rick Ackley, started one of the Tri-State areas leading electrical contractors. Ackley worked at A&G Electric for over 30 year until his recent retirement. In that time he negotiated collective bargaining contracts with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 704.

Dave George was hired at Interstate Power Company’s Dubuque Power Plant as an auxiliary operator and helper in 1982. In the late 1980’s George was elected to the Executive Board of IBEW Local 263 and appointed as the Union Steward representing the Dubuque Power Plant. In 1994, he was appointed to the position of Business Manager of IBEW Local 263, and in 1995, was elected as Business Manager for another three-year term.

In May of 1998, George became a full-time Assistant Business Manager for IBEW Local 204. He held the position of Assistant Business Manager until May of 2008, when he was appointed by the Local 204 Executive Board to the position of Business Manager. In 2009, 2012, and 2015, George was reelected as the Business Manager of IBEW Local 204.
