A Northeast Iowa Community College administrator and two members of the board of trustees will be presenting on the success of the college’s Interest Based Bargaining process at a national conference.
Julie Huiskamp, Ph.D., executive director of human resources, and trustees John Rothlisberger, of Fredericksburg, and David Schueller, of Peosta, will present “Achieve New Heights with IBB” at the Association of Community College Trustees Leadership Conference. The conference will be held in San Diego, CA, and the NICC leaders will present on October 16.
NICC implemented its Interest Based Bargaining process beginning with negotiations in 2013-2014. The process replaced traditional bargaining and instead focuses on equal status between bargaining units and the administration, and interests that are broadly based and best serve all students at the college.
The Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council (DALMC) has recognized administrators, NICC, the Higher Education Association (HEA) that represents faculty, and the Support Staff Association (SSA) that represents NICC support staff members.
The DALMC honors include: Huiskamp, with the Great Job Honor Roll Recognition in 2012; NICC, NICC-HEA, and NICC-SSA with the Labor-Management Partnership Award in 2013; and NICC President Liang Chee Wee, Ph.D. with the Bob Bennett Award for Good Faith in Collective Bargaining in 2014.
