Recipients of the 2020 Molony Foundation scholarships are: Paige McDermott, Beckman Catholic High School; Jada Merrick, Maquoketa High School; Teresa Jo Petsche, Western Dubuque High School; and Hannah Schiesl Wahlert Catholic High School.

McDermott and Merrick were awarded the Foundation’s $2500 Nursing Scholarship. McDermott is a 2020 graduate of Beckman Catholic High School and will be attending University of Northern Iowa this fall. Merrick, a 2017 graduate of Maquoketa High school, is currently attending the NICC nursing program. The Molony Foundation Nursing Scholarships were established in 2015 to support local students interested in pursuing a nursing career.

Petsche and Schiesl were awarded the Foundation’s Josey (Molony) & Ray Feeney Scholarship. The Scholarships of $1000 were established in 2015 to support local 4-H members to advance into post-high school education at a recognized two-year or four-year college or university. Both Petsche and Schiesl will be attending Iowa State.

The Foundation was created by Kay, Don, and Jim Molony, successful farmers from Bernard who worked hard, lived modestly, and believed in giving back. Scholarship winners have demonstrated the Molony’s defining characteristics in their lives – kindness, compassion and ambition.

The Molony Family Foundation is dedicated to supporting community endeavors that reflect values of self-reliance, ambition, humility and honesty. A goal is to encourage and assist post-high school education at a recognized two-year or four-year college or university. Award recipients were chosen for their potential to improve the community through service and education. The scholarships are awarded annually.
