Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) is introducing a new Business Specialist program format this fall that is designed for working adults. The new format features eight-week evening and hybrid (face-to-face and online) courses at the Dubuque Center’s convenient downtown location at 700 Main St. Students can take classes when it fits their schedules and earn the Associate of Applied Science degree in two years or less while attending full time.
Coursework in the Business Specialist program is designed to prepare graduates for professional careers by focusing on critical thinking, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills. Individual classes in the program teach students computer software applications used in business environments, sales and marketing strategies, customer service, psychology, economics and finance, entrepreneurship, management, and human resources management.
Affordable and flexible for the working adult, the Business Specialist program at the Dubuque Center caters to the needs of community members who are balancing their educational goals with busy work and family lives, according to Sue Stork, Dubuque Center director.
Graduates of the Business Specialist program are earning an annual income range of $42,397 – $69,499 in northeast Iowa, as department managers, document specialists, financial service representatives/tellers, inventory specialists, material requirement planning controllers, supervisors, and trust date and reconcilement specialists, to name a few.
