A foundation honoring a Dubuque-area couple has announced the 2017 grant recipients based upon applications received to support the work of other Dubuque and NE Iowa area charitable organizations. Grant payouts for 2017 totaled $497,000.
The James B. and Melita A. McDonough Foundation is a private, nonprofit foundation whose mission is to improve the quality of life in NE Iowa by supporting the work of other 501(c)(3) organizations. 2017 marks the fifth year of this Foundation’s cash grants. This year they received 115 applications and issued 75 checks in full or partial satisfaction of the requested project. 75% of the grants were in an amount of $5,000 or less. There were more than 70 grant recipients.

Grant applications need to be submitted from April 1 through May 31. The directors will review these in June and make awards in July each year.
