Pete Hird chuckles slightly, nodding positively, when thinking and reflecting on where America would be without labor unions.
“October 24, 1940, 40-hour workweek; October 24, 1945, 40 cent minimum wage,” he says. “Just think. A lot of people living today probably aren’t aware of the changes brought about by unions, and obviously, there are those who do, but before then, working conditions were drastically different.”
