The Grand Opera House was the recipient of a $10,000 Dubuque Racing Association Grant used to purchase seven units of the QLX-D 14 digital wireless systems. Each unit includes a ULXD4 Digital Wireless Receiver and ULXD1 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter. Performers wear the wireless body pack transmitter that is connected to a wireless body microphone. The transmitter communicates with the digital receiver through a specific frequency. Wireless amplification of performers is an essential component of presenting live theater and a keystone to fulfilling our mission.
The Dubuque Racing Association, d.b.a. Q Casino, recently announced grant awards totaling $1,359,769.65 to 151 area charitable organizations. The grants awarded ranged from $1,197 to $25,000. The average grant award was $7,768.51 with 53 organizations receiving full funding for their projects. Twenty-nine schools or school districts received $355,593 or 26% of the grant money. Over 61% of the funds supported organizations within the City of Dubuque and 79% of the funds supported organizations within Dubuque County.
The Dubuque Racing Association distributes funds from its operation annually. The annual disbursement resulted in the State of Iowa receiving $10,221,194 the City of Dubuque receiving $7,164,956 and Dubuque County receiving $240,711. During the 2016 fiscal year, the DRA also paid $14,533,695 in payroll and benefits to nearly 315 employees.
The $10,000 grant awarded to the Grand Opera will have a significant impact on the sound quality of production at the theater. The Grand Opera House gratefully acknowledges the Dubuque Racing Association for a commitment to improving the quality of life in our community.
